St. Joseph Catholic Church

Mt. Holly, NC

Built in 1843

Fourth Degree Marks Feast of St. Joseph: SK Carl Heil reported that there was a well-attended Mass at the historic St. Joseph's Church in Mt. Holly, on the feast of St. Joseph (March 19, 2009). Nearly 50 worshippers joined a dozen members of the Wm. Gaston Assembly, including an Honor Guard of Sir Knights, at this annual event. Faithful Friar Msgr. Anthony Kovacic and Belmont Abbey's Fr. Kieran Nielson concelebrated. Following the service, Heil conducted an hour long tour for a group of 14 women from Shelby, NC. St. Joseph's, built in 1843, is one of the oldest Catholic churches in the state which hosts several special Masses annually. Carl Heil, caretaker of the property for the last 16 years, thanks all council and assembly members who volunteer for the upkeep of St. Joseph's. Council #11076 and its members certainly appreciate Carl's dedication and leadership in preserving this cradle of Catholicism in western North Carolina.

Thanks to Belmont Council #11076 for sharing this information.
