Degree Reviews and Reporting

Another very important aspect of degree work is to discuss and review each degree exemplified after it has been completed.

Why do we take the time to review our degree work?

It’s the only way to identify areas that may need improvement. Remember our one and only goal when it comes to degree exemplifications is: “each degree is done for the “Beauty, Dignity and Edification” of all observing and receiving the degree.”

Just as important, it also allows the team to celebrate their accomplishments of a degree well done.

Conducting Degree Reviews:
For First Degrees, the DD of that council should meet with the team and the GK of the council (if not members of the team already) immediately after the degree to give his comments. A small room outside the main chamber is sufficient to hold this meeting, and the meeting need only take a few moments. Do not get into a session where you start pointing fingers or criticizing the members. This must be a positive review beginning and ending on a positive note.

For Second Degrees, the State Ceremonials Chairman, or the State Deputy if the SCC is not available, or a selected State Officer if neither are available, will conduct the degree review. The District Deputy and the RDD (if not members of the team already) should be present as well for the review. A small room outside the main chamber is sufficient to hold this meeting, and the meeting need only take a few moments. Do not get into a session where you start pointing fingers or criticizing the members. This must be a positive review beginning and ending on a positive note.

Reporting of Degrees:
District Deputies are responsible for reporting every degree exemplified in their district to Supreme, the State Deputy and the State Ceremonials Chairman within a timely manner. This includes First, Second, and Third degrees and is to be done on Supreme report # 450-NC. All comments on this form should be honest, but positive. Refrain from putting any negative comments on the form going to Supreme. Any concerns regarding a degree or a team member should be addressed in private, and can either be communicated in writing on a separate document or on the back of the copy going to the State Deputy. District Deputies should also provide a copy to the GK of each council degree team to help them in bettering their efforts and improving their teams.
