and
hiking in the region. Challenge your friends to a tennis match on the outdoor
clay and indoor courts or enjoy swimming in the outdoor heated pool.
The Crowne Plaza Resort's 274 guest rooms feature Sleep Ad-vantage Bedding
and sleep amenities providing you with a perfect night's sleep. Complimentary
Wireless
Internet is available in all the guest rooms and meeting space.
The Resort offers over 34,000 square feet of event space including the Expo
Center, 20 tennis courts, a 9-hole golf course, heated outdoor swimming pool,
fitness
center, and the recently added Adelaide Spa.
Asheville has grown from a small pioneering town into a flourishing metropolis
of over 83,000 people, nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Buncombe County
at the convergence of the Swannanoa and French Broad Rivers. Asheville’s
average elevation is 2,165 feet above sea level with surrounding mountain elevations
of up to 6,685 feet with Mount Mitchell, the highest peak east of the Mississippi
River. Because of this broad range of elevations and corresponding mild year
around cli-mates and plant growth, the area is one of the most diversified in
the United States. Asheville’s aver-age high temperature in May is a pleasant
74.3ºF while the morning low average low temperature is a cool 52.1ºF.
The city's rich architectural legacy with its mix of Art Deco, Beaux Arts and
Neoclassical styles is the perfect retro-urban backdrop to the edgy energy
that emanates from the locally owned-shops and art galleries, distinctive restaurants
and exciting entertainment venues. Known as an art colony, a healing resort
and
a home to notable luminaries, statesmen and bohemians, Asheville is one of
the most welcoming, vibrant cities in America.
Couple these attributes with its beautiful natural surroundings makes Asheville
one of the Southeast's most popular tourist destinations. Perfect for sightseeing,
fishing, and hiking all year round. Maybe having the 2012 State Convention
in Asheville gives you an opportunity to plan a fam-ily vacation in the mountains.
The 2012 North Carolina State Convention information and registration packets will be dis-tributed to the Grand Knights at the January mid-year organizational meeting. Further information on the convention will be posted on the North Carolina Knights of Columbus web site: www.kofcnc.org and in future editions of the Tar Heel Knight.
