Dear Brothers,
I hope this edition of the Tarheel Knight finds you well. As I write this letter we are in the middle of the holiest week of the year beginning with Palm Sunday and ending with the resurrection of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ at Easter. The Easter Triduum beginning on Holy Thursday and ending with Easter Sunday has always been my most favorite time of the year. I have previously mentioned to some of you significance of the San Damiano cross and why it's important to me. The fact is that its depiction of the entire Triduum sums up the events of those four days in one single image. As a child I have many fond memories of each of these very special celebrations especially Holy Saturday and the blessing of the light. Each of us are asked to be the light of Christ and here in North Carolina the goal of the Knights of Columbus is to take Jesus to the people and places that need him most. The theme of “Be the Light” comes from Mathew 5:14 in which he states “
You are the light of Christ to the world
”. We are all called to be that light in our everyday lives. On the Sunday the Octave of Easter, it is commonly known as Divine Mercy Sunday. In the image of Christ from Saint Sister Faustina, you see the light of Christ emanating from him. Let this image be an inspiration to you as you take the light of Christ to those that need Him most.
I know that you have been doing exactly this based upon the many great program reports that we received this past year. I am looking forward to seeing you in Durham at the end of the month as we celebrate the accomplishments of this past year and recognize those councils that have truly represented what the Knights of Columbus is about. It will be a fabulous celebration and you will want to be a part of it.
May this year’s Easter celebration reinvigorate your faith and strengthen your light as you shine for Christ in your part of North Carolina.
Chris
