They stood tall—stoic, composed, and focused. The auditorium lights reflected off their solemn expressions, not from nerves, but from reverence. Though some of the words spoken during the Exemplification ceremony—especially those referencing family life—did not yet apply to them, the young men listened intently. They absorbed every phrase, letting the lessons of charity, unity, and fraternity settle deeply into their hearts.
This was more than just an initiation. It was a public declaration of faith—a bold pledge to follow Christ and to live as Catholic men of service.
On Sunday, March 16, at 7:00 p.m., just after the regular 6:00 p.m. campus Mass, High Point University made history. Under the leadership and spiritual guidance of Father Marcel Amadi, Catholic Chaplain at HPU and Associate State Chaplain for the North Carolina Knights of Columbus, fifteen students were welcomed into the Brotherhood of the Knights of Columbus through the Exemplification of Charity, Unity, and Fraternity.
This moment marked a new chapter for both the university and the Order. It was the first Knights of Columbus presence on a traditionally Methodist campus—an historic step in faith and fraternity.
“These men are on fire with their faith,” said District Deputy Ed Christian. “It’s so great to see young men, in the times in which we live, who love the Lord!”
Father Marcel reflected on the evening, saying, “History was made last night at High Point University and in the Diocese of Charlotte when fifteen college students were welcomed into the knighthood. It was a night of joy, faith, and spiritual commitment.”
To witness these young men take their first steps as Knights was both humbling and inspiring. Their faith radiated with youthful exuberance and deep conviction. As leaders in the Order, we are called to protect this flame—to nurture it so it may burn brightly and boldly throughout their lives.
May this night be the first of many milestones on their journey of Catholic brotherhood.
Brothers, I hope your Lent has been faith-filled and impactful, just as it has been for these young men. May the fire of faith burn brightly in us, too, —for all the world to see.
