Welcome to August. It has been a busy July with the DD Org meeting and three Council Leadership Training sessions around the state. It was great seeing many of you at one or more of these events.
Thank you to Brother Jerome Savage who agreed to take on the role of Pilgrim Icon Program Chairman just before the DD Org Meeting. We have three of these icons and we decided to keep them in circulation around the state. Currently they are in Regions 2, 4 and 5. This program is especially important this year as it ties in with the US Bishops’ consecration of the US to the Sacred Heart as part of the America 250 celebration and the 250 Acts of Devotion. We also have an icon of Our Lady of Guadalupe that is part of the Imitating Saint Juan Diego Program and that is in Region 7. If you would like to host one of these icons at your council or parish please contact your DD to make the arrangements.
Keep Christ in Christmas and Catholic Citizenship Essay Contest are both active in the fall. On the State website we have order forms for the Christmas cards and other materials available from two different vendors. One vendor has English cards and the other has cards in a variety of languages plus other materials including bumper stickers, magnets and even billboards. Also, there are two youth-oriented contests in the fall the poster contest and the essay contest. We have reached out to contacts in both the Charlotte and Raleigh dioceses this year asking them to help spread the word about both contests. Hopefully we will get some increased interest in them due to this effort. If you haven’t run these programs before you may be contacted by students, teachers or youth leaders who are interested in participating.
