The Tar Heel Knight
Knights in Action

The Knights of Council 9039 in Shallotte NC used a unique method to raise funds for their Charities, a car show. The car show was held in St Brendan the Navigator Church parking lot on Saturday November 4th. After the National Anthem, Father Anit began the show with a prayer. One hundred and fifty-three participants displayed their prized cars and trucks for the enjoyment of the spectators, hoping for a chance at one of the many trophy categories. There were numerous genres for each of the participants to compete within, from antique cars, restored, new cars, muscle cars, best paint job, best in show and several other categories. The trophies presented to the category winners and runners-up contained the KofC logo to advertise the Knights presence. The Car Show committee under the guidance of Brothers Earle Hoyt and John Leone spent many hours organizing the car show, solicited donations from local business sponsors and even out of state sponsors to raise funds for the Knights charities. Twenty-three Brothers volunteered to work the show, directing cars to their spots, judging, running the Car Show activities, selling food and of course clean up afterward. The Car show was advertised in the church bulletin, the Councils newsletter the Mariner and with fliers at local businesses and other car shows in the area. A fee for registration also contributed to the funds raised, while the Council sold coffee, donuts, soft drinks, and hotdogs. The Council set up a table for LAMB and membership information, with several inquiries hopefully that will come through. The car show raised over $9000 for the KofC Council 9039 Charities. We would like to thank Fr. Mark for his support and for allowing the Knights to run this fund-raiser at St Brendan’s Church.
