November has been busy with the introduction of four new programs that are now available to us in North Carolina.
First is a homegrown program called Kids and Screens that aims to reintroduce kids to the joy of reading actual paper books and engaging in other activities besides staring at their computer screens. It’s the brainchild of Family Director Woody Hampshire working with Peter Ryan from Virginia. More information will be available at the Mid-Year Meeting for those attending. Thanks Woody for taking the lead on this and for a great effort in putting the program together.
Not to be outdone, Supreme has introduced three more new programs. These are ¡Viva Cristo Rey!, Quinceañera Support, and Gospel of Life, which respectively fall into the Faith, Family and Life Categories. Click the program names for the details and program materials available on the Supreme website; all three have already been added to Form 10784. This brings the total of new Supreme programs this year to eight. As you might imagine, it would be great to have a State Chairman for each program. Speaking of Form 10784s, it’s advisable to add as much detail as you can to these forms. While the character count is limited in the online Supreme filing, that can be augmented with additional descriptions, attachments and pictures when you send them to the State at forms@kofcnc.org. Remember that the State awards are on a calendar year basis so please file all your completed programs so they can be considered for this year’s awards.
Still on the topic of awards, December is the month to start thinking about the details for the various “Of the Year” awards for Priest, Deacon, Knight, Rookie, Golden Knight, and Family. The deadline is February 1^st but since these require a council resolution don’t wait until January to start writing your submittal. As you’re reading this, Advent has already begun and Christmas is fast approaching. In the midst of all the holiday hustle and bustle please take some time to contemplate the beauty and meanings of the liturgical seasons of Advent and Christmas. While enjoying the holiday music, movies, decorations, food, drinks, parties, etc. it’s easy to forget the small innocent baby who came to save us and who is the “reason for the season.” In other words, Keep Christ in Christmas! Whether you’re staying home or traveling a great distance, celebrating alone or with a large group, I wish all of you a very Holy and Merry Christmas.
