My brother Knights!

Joe.jpgNC Knights of Columbus Leadership Series: Servant Leadership

The inaugural NC Knights of Columbus Leadership Series on Servant Leadership was an inspiring event, featuring Supreme Director and Past State Deputy Colin Jorsh. For those who were unable to attend, a recording of the event is available on YouTube at this link: https://bit.ly/47knBVb. The evening was truly memorable, as Colin’s discussion on servant leadership resonated deeply and brought new insights to all who participated.

Understanding Servant Leadership

Servant leadership is both a philosophy and a model of leadership in which the leader’s primary objective is to serve others. This approach places the needs and growth of the team above the leader’s own interests, setting it apart from more traditional leadership styles that often rely on command and control. In servant leadership, the leader’s focus is on supporting and developing team members, which may seem counter-intuitive at first. However, the rationale becomes evident when considering the leader’s ultimate goal: building a well-functioning team!
A successful servant leader identifies obstacles that hinder the team from achieving its goals, works diligently to remove or reduce these barriers, and encourages team members to grow in both confidence and capability within their roles. This lesson is especially relevant for us as Knights; by working together as a team, we can achieve much more. As leaders, it is our responsibility to seek out ways to help our Brothers accomplish even greater things. As a District Deputy under Past State Deputy Jack Murray, I was inspired by his motto: T.E.A.M. – Together Everyone Achieves More!

The Ultimate Example of Servant Leadership

During his presentation, Colin emphasized Jesus Christ as the ultimate example of servant leadership. Through His selfless sacrifice, Jesus provided the perfect model of serving others and putting their needs above His own.

An Important Reminder from Your State Treasurer

Per-capita and insurance payments are due. Please submit any outstanding amounts, as these funds are required for upcoming events like the 2026 Convention.

A Christmas Wish

As Christmas approaches and we prepare to celebrate the birth of our Lord, Jesus Christ, I wish each of you a very Merry Christmas and a Blessed New Year!
Vivat Jesus,

Joe McCarthy, North Carolina State Treasurer
