A New Year of Commitment and Renewal

Author: Sergio Miranda

Wednesday January 01, 2025

As we step into the new year, it is a time to reflect, renew, and recommit ourselves to the mission of the Knights of Columbus. Inspired by the words of Saint Mother Teresa of Calcutta, we are reminded of our call to “take Jesus to the people and places that need him the most.” This profound challenge encapsulates the essence of who we are as Knights—a brotherhood dedicated to embodying Christ’s love and serving those in need.

Looking back on the year that has passed, we are humbled by what we have achieved together as a state. Through tireless effort, generosity, and a shared sense of purpose, we have brought hope to many lives and made a meaningful impact in our communities. One of the most heartwarming achievements of the past year was the success of our Coats for Kids program. With over $40,000 raised and invested in this initiative, we provided hundreds of children with warm coats to shield them from the biting cold of winter. Each coat distributed was more than just an article of clothing; it was a gesture of care and a reminder that they are not forgotten.

We also responded to the call to help those facing devastation in the wake of Hurricane Helene. When natural disasters struck, leaving families displaced and communities in disarray, we mobilized quickly to provide relief. From supplies to moral support, our efforts brought a glimmer of hope during dark times. It is in moments like these that we truly live out our commitment to be the hands and feet of Christ in the world.

Another remarkable achievement this past year was our Build-a-Bed initiative. In partnership with local Sleep In Heavenly Peace chapters and with the help of countless volunteers, we built and delivered beds to families who previously lacked a proper place to sleep. These beds became symbols of stability and hope, reminding us all that even the simplest gestures can have a profound impact.

Finally, our brotherhood grew stronger and more vibrant as we welcomed approximately 500 new Catholic men into the Knights of Columbus. Each new member represents a renewed commitment to our mission and brings unique talents, energy, and faith to our shared work. Their decision to join us is a testament to the enduring relevance and importance of the principles that guide us—charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism.

As we look to the year ahead, we are filled with hope and determination. While we celebrate the accomplishments of the past, we know that the work of bringing Jesus to those in need is never finished. The lonely, the struggling, the marginalized, and the vulnerable continue to cry out for compassion and aid. Let us recommit ourselves to answering that call, to being the light of Christ in our communities and beyond.

Brothers, as we embark on this new chapter, let us carry forward the legacy of our past successes and the spirit of Mother Teresa’s challenge. Together, we can build a future filled with hope, love, and faith, one act of service at a time. Let us continue to strive for excellence in our charitable works, deepen our bonds of fraternity, and grow ever closer to Christ through our mission.

May this year be a year of renewed purpose and abundant blessings for us all. Peace and blessings to you and your families.

Vivat Jesus!
