The Tar Heel Knight

             Each year in December Wreaths Across America is held in December, honoring our deceased veterans who fought to protect and serve our country.  This year, National Wreaths Across America Day was held on Saturday, December 14, 2024. There will be more than two million volunteers and supporters who will gather to Remember, Honor and Teach at more than 4,600 participating locations in all 50 states, at sea and abroad.  
            On Saturday, December 14, 2024 Haywood County was no exception.   The council, led by PGK’s Lonnie Pizza, Chris Amsler and Mark Zaffrann, in partnership with The American Legion, The Knights of Columbus Council 15085, other local charitable organizations, the JROTC programs from two Haywood County High Schools; Pisgah and Tuscola and well over 100 volunteers including several members of The Knights of Columbus were able to lay over 850 wreathes on the graves of our Veterans.   Truly an emotional and inspiring morning.
The teamwork demonstrated by the Council throughout the year was instrumental in making the event a success.   This includes fundraising and education at events, classrooms and businesses throughout Haywood County.    I am truly grateful for all Brother Lonnie’s efforts as well as the efforts of so many other Brother Knights, American Legion Members, Veterans, and family members that come together to make this a beautiful and meaningful day.
