Columbian Award and Program Changes Announced

Author: Francis Reck

Wednesday July 01, 2026

The Columbian Award application process will look a lot different this Columbian Year based on changes that Supreme announced in the June webinar. The old 16-point system with Featured and Non-Featured Programs has been replaced by new system with three requirements.
  1. 1 Donate at least $500 as part of one of the following Faith in Action programs: ASAP, Food for Families, RSVP, or Coats for Kids.
  2. 2 Complete Four Faith in Action programs, one each in Faith, Family, Community, and Life. These must be different from the one entered in Requirement 1.
  3. 3 Complete three programs or activities in the following areas:
  • bring men closer to Christ,
  • build fraternity, and
  • support your parish or community.
Note that conducting Cor will completely satisfy the third requirement.
A new interactive award application that streamlines the completion has been announced so the process should be simpler and more foolproof than in the past.
In other changes,
  • Build-a-Bed is added as a Family program,
  • Building the Domestic Church Kiosk is moved to the Family category,
  • Family Fully Alive and Family Prayer Night are combined
  • Novena for Life and Gospel of Life are combined
  • Pregnancy Center Support and ASAP are combined
  • Family Week, Good Friday Family Promotion and Habitat for Humanity are deleted.
Details are available at www.kofc.org and in the newly revised Faith in Action Guidebook that is on its way to council leaders. These changes will also be addressed at the DD Org. meeting and the Council Leadership Training sessions this month.
Catholic Citizenship Essay Contest Topic Announced
Supreme also released the 2026-27 fraternal year essay topic:
“The rights of man come not from the generosity of the state but from the hand of God.”
In 500-750 words, explain what this quote from former U.S. President and Knights of Columbus member John F. Kennedy’s 1961 Inaugural address means and its importance for the flourishing of a nation.
