Father Bernard McDevitt Council 15085 from St. John the Evangelist in Waynesville was one of the councils chosen for the honor to participate in the Silver Rose program as the Silver Rose made its way from South Carolina into North Carolina and then Virginia.   Planning began two months in advance and was a parish collaboration between the Knight’s of Columbus, Catholic Daughters of America, the Hispanic community, Parish office and our pastor and council Chaplain Fr. Lucas Rossi.
 
We hosted the Silver Rose the evening of Thursday, June 4, starting with procession of the Silver Rose led by the 4^th degree honor guard.    The program started with a bilingual rosary and then bilingual prayer service culminated by a beautiful homily by Fr. Lucas Rossi.   The program concluded with a procession of the Silver Rose and images of Our Lady of Guadalupe into our Social Hall, once again led by the 4^th degree honor guard.   Our parish then enjoyed food and fellowship together in the presence of the Silver Rose.
 
This was truly a wonderful event and opportunity to get all ministries together at St. John’s!   The Silver Rose Prayer Service and fellowship was attended by well over 100 people, so coming from other parishes to attend this beautiful event!   The Brother’s of our Council really took this program to heart and helped in the planning, procession, decades of the Rosary, readings and the Litany of Mary!
 
We are tremendously grateful for this opportunity and hope to host the Silver Rose again in the future when it passes through North Carolina.   We look forward to hearing more about our Silver Rose as it passes through other states on its way to Mexico on December 12 to be united with the other Silver Roses on the Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe!
