Worthy State Deputy,
It has been an honor for me to serve as the State Advocate for my second year.
This year presented us with a major challenge for Safe Environment Training. Our struggles revolved around the lack of reporting until later in the year. As usual, several of our District Deputies understand the importance of Safe Environment and worked with their councils to become compliant regardless of the reporting. Others required education on the reports that were available and how to use them to assist their councils in becoming compliant. Each District Deputy received at least two emails with their status and instructions on how to correct any issues found. I plan one more report this year which will issue a challenge to complete Safe Environment Training in their District by the end of September 2024.
We only had a few incidents to investigate this year. Fortunately, only one led to a suspension which was unavoidable given the incident. Another incident was for mistreatment of a Brother Knight;however, apologies were made after discussions with the members involved in the incident.
Resolutions were smoother this year due to what was learned last year. I will be documenting the process so the lessons learned will not be lost as we move forward.
Programs were managed very well by GPD Paul Spire. We are very fortunate to have him in this position. We had a few missteps as we continue to grow from the years of COVID inactivity, but we will learn and continue to become better. We continue to struggle with how to present awards at the convention. This will be addressed as we move forward.
I have very much enjoyed my two years as North Carolina’s State Advocate. I have learned much over the past two years. I will be updating the transition manual with what I have learned over the past two years and pledge to be available to the new State Advocate for any questions.
Finally, Worthy State Deputy, I am grateful to you for your guidance over the last two years. I hope I have been able to provide the support you need as your State Advocate.
I am very grateful for the support of the Brothers in our great state as I continue to learn my responsibilities and serve the State Council of North Carolina. I could not have accomplished what I have without the support of all my Brothers in North Carolina.
Vivat Jesus!
