The Tar Heel Knight
State Warden Elect's Message

Greetings from the lovely view of Fort Leavenworth,
I want to thank everyone for voting for me as the State Warden Elect at the State Convention in Durham. I enjoyed my conversations with each of you and your support was amazing. I pray that I can live up to all your expectations each day.
While I transition into becoming the forms and meeting guy for the upcoming Fraternal Year, I encourage feedback on how I can help you within my official duties of collecting forms and also help improve the Knight’s organization across our great state. I really want to support you in becoming better at whatever stage of a Council you might be in. My definition of better is not necessarily targeting Star Council, but better supporting our fellow Knights, their families, widows, parishes, and communities.
Our Motto of Charity, Unity, and Fraternity is still as vital today as it was at the time of the creation of the Knights of Columbus by Blessed Fr. McGivney. I want to focus on Fraternity this month, especially as we head into the summer months. We as Knights need to ensure that we are checking up on our brother Knights; whether they are busy running children around to summer camps or sporting events, or our elderly brothers
who can’t get out or lend a helping hand like they used to. An excellent way for us as brothers over the summer to conduct Fraternity is by holding get togethers.
Focus on the Faith and knowing our faith is important. My plan is to include a Saint of the Month at the bottom of my THK messages each month. This month, the saint is very close to me, St. Thomas More. It is not only close to me because I belong to St. Thomas More parish, but he is one of the top Catholic political philosophers I studied as an undergraduate. St. Thomas More’s feast day is June 22. He lived in England and served under King Henry VIII. He held key positions in the English government, such as Lord Chancellor. He wrote the book Utopia, which described the ideal Catholic political system. He fought the teachings of Martin Luther and the Protestant Reformation, even to the point of losing his head. St. Thomas More is often linked to St. John Fisher, a bishop who joined More in the fight against the Protestant Reformation. St. Thomas More is a great saint for us brother knights to learn more about and embody.
