My brother Knights!
Over the past month, I have been very busy handling several important tasks for our State Council. First, the insurance invoices were sent out to all councils participating in the State’s program. Following that, the Second Half Per Capita invoices were distributed to every council. In addition, your State Council is currently in the midst of planning the budget for the next Fraternal Year. Lastly, we are also continuing our preparations for the upcoming State Convention.
Insurance Invoices
I understand that the insurance invoices sent to councils were higher than anticipated, and they did not cover a full year. We have learned that, along with increased rates, the policy term will be changing again. The invoice sent to your council covers the period from February 1, 2026, to October 1, 2026. We have been informed that the next policy will begin on October 1, 2026, and will extend through October 1, 2027. The expected cost is approximately $3.50 per member; however, please keep in mind that the final amount will depend on the bill we receive.
Per Capita Invoices
The Per Capita Invoices were also sent to councils last month. We are working diligently to maintain the per capita invoice at $8.00 per active member and $4.00 per Honorary member per year. One of the fundraisers that helps us keep the per capita assessment stable is the State Raffle. I encourage every council to participate in this important fundraiser! For every $5.00 ticket sold by the council, $2.50 is returned to the State Council, making this not only a fundraising opportunity for the State but also for your council!
Payment of Invoices
Thank you very much to those who have already paid your invoices. If you have not yet made your payment, please do so at your earliest convenience. Keep in mind that while I send out the invoices, all payments should be sent to the State Secretary, Paul McGrath, at 112 Flowering Bridge Path, Caswell Beach, NC 28465-8414. When submitting your payment, please be sure to include your council number and invoice number on your check to ensure proper credit is given to your council.
2026-2027 Budget
Your State Council is hard at work developing the budget for the next Fraternal Year. We recognize the responsibility you place in us by entrusting your council’s resources, and we are committed to being good stewards of those funds. We have realized that our budget presentations can sometimes be confusing, so we are making efforts to present the State Council’s budget in a clearer and more understandable way. Our goal is for you to always know exactly how your council’s resources are being allocated.
Annual North Carolina Knights of Columbus Convention
Planning for the State Convention is ongoing. As mentioned last month, a very special highlight this year will be a visit from Bishop Zarama! The convention will take place at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel in Durham from May 15

As always, if you have any questions or need assistance, please feel free to reach out to me. Wishing you all a joyful and prosperous start to the year!

Joe McCarthy, North Carolina State Treasurer
