Greetings from the Crystal Coast!
I am going to update you on a couple of programs and let you know about a couple of upcoming programs to get your councils involved.
Coats for Kids - I want to thank all the councils who participated in the BOGO opportunity to help twice as many kids with your purchase power. To recap, all the councils who placed and paid for their orders through the State Council will have their orders duplicated. The State Council will be sending the order to Supreme to fill. Once we get notification that the order is on its way, we will let the distribution locations know so they can set up the pickup times and dates for the councils to get their cases. The distribution locations are Fuquay-Varina in the East, Greensboro in the Central and Candler in the West. My sincere thanks to the councils that stepped up to be the drop off locations. More information will follow as we go through this process.
Build a Bed – We have had building projects completed already and more to come in the month of September. The Jacksonville Council and Assembly had a building project on August 24th where 26 volunteers helped build 13 beds. On September 14th, they will be doing a larger project called Bunks Across America where they will be building 40 beds. If you are in the Jacksonville area, please consider helping. Supreme may be visiting the build in Jacksonville. On September 28th, there will be a 20-bed build project on Fort Liberty at Pope Chapel. If you are in the Fort Liberty area, please consider helping.
Soccer Challenge - By now, councils should be scheduling their Soccer challenges and have ordered their kits through Supreme. Get your local winners to send on to your district challenge site to go on to the State Soccer challenge which will be held at St. Bernadette’s church in Fuquay-Varina on Saturday November 2nd at 10 am.
Catholic Essay Contest – School and religious education classes have started. Please have your councils consider visiting their religious education classes and their middle and high schools and encourage them to participate in this year’s Catholic Essay Contest. This year’s topic: In an essay of 500-750 words, what are the two most important virtues for an elected leader to possess, and why? How can you determine if the leader has these virtues?
This contest encourages today’s youth to be more connected to their community and their faith. The goal of this program is to involve young Catholics in grades 8 to 12 (public, private, parochial or home schools during the current school year) in civic discourse and instill in them religious and life-affirming values.
Councils should have their winners picked by November 15th and sent on to their District Deputy. DD’s should have their winners picked by December 15 15th and sent on to their Regional District Deputy. RDDs should have their winners picked by the Mid Year Meeting and given to me at the Mid-Year meeting or sent to me by January 15th. The State’s winner is due to Supreme by February 15th.
More information on the essay contest can be found on the Supreme website.
Any questions on any of these programs, please contact me.
We need a few Brother Knights to step up and help us with some chairman positions for some state programs.
If you know of any Brother Knight that is willing to step up and help out. Please contact me at community@kofcnc.org or at 910-526-5124.
Thank you for allowing me to continue serve you and your councils!
Vivat Jesus!
