New Family Program

Author: Woody Hampshire

Monday September 01, 2025

I’m excited to introduce the new Family Program from Supreme. It is a Featured program which means it is worth 2 points for your SP-7. Remembering Our Faithful Departed is the new program from Supreme that was just announced this month. The Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus in support encourage the faithful to pray for the dead and asking God to grant rest to souls in purgatory. Councils should start planning events now as the suggested dates for conducting the activities for the Remembering Our Faithful Departed are during All Souls Week or specifically All Hallows Eve- 31 October, All Saints Day- 1 November and All Souls Day- 2 November. Devotions can be held anytime during the month of November or at any time following the death of a loved one.
Proposed works of mercy could be by creating “ofrendas” or altars at their Church or homes, which will serve as a reminder to pray for the deceased. Other options for commemorating Our Faithful Departed are memorial rosaries (#11844) honoring the deceased at cemeteries, offering a Mass for the deceased, or praying the One Hundred Requiem prayer (#11852) or the Prayer for the Holy Souls in Purgatory (#11787). Councils can also plan a costume party for All Saints Day with the children dressed up as their favorite Saint. Councils may also wish to combine the memorial rosary at the cemetery with a workday where they clean and decorate the headstones of graves and cemetery plots. Resources for this important program are available on the Supreme website kofc.org under supplies online, faith in action.
While adding this new program to your Councils repertoire don’t forget about the other Family Programs. Family of the Month is still an important program. Food for Families never goes out of fashion. Keep Christ in Christmas is also a program that should be getting geared up now, so that you have all of the supplies and announcements ready for the card sales and the poster contest.
Now with the addition of a new program in Family; I am still looking for a few good Knights to be program chairmen. Please reach out to me if you are interested, or if you know another Knight that is looking for something to do in the Knights.
