Greetings from the Crystal Coast!
I would like to thank all the councils who have ordered coats to provide for the children in their community. Because of your overwhelming participation, we have reached the allocated amount of 135 cases to double.
Please stay tuned for updates as the State is working to see if additional cases may become available to double from Supreme.
Information will be coming about how the councils who ordered coats can pick them up from the three centralized hubs.
Three centralized hubs across North Carolina:
1) Mountains Council 15265 Candler,
2) Central –Council 11101 Greensboro
3) Coastal region - Council 12119 in Fuquay Varina
Local councils will collect coats from these hubs for local distribution. These are the same locations that were used last year.
There are no mixing cases. So, if you order and pay for a case of Boys Child Coats (4-6), you will receive two cases of the Boys Child Coats (4-6) when you pick up your order, if your order has been doubled.
I would suggest that districts and regions work together to coordinate a district or regional pick-up location so that the individual councils don’t need to drive a long way to get their orders.
The requirements for councils to earn the Columbian Award have changed. If you order $500 or more worth of cases of coats through the Coats for Kids program, you will meet the first requirement for the Columbian Award.
Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
The new school year has begun!
If you are planning on participating in the soccer challenge, please order the kits from Supreme. Now is the time to start holding your council’s local soccer challenge. The State Soccer Challenge is on Saturday November 7th at Fuquay-Varina. The soccer challenge is open to boys and girls ages 9 through 14. For additional information, please contact Brother Octavio Prieto at soccerchallenge@kofcnc.org.
The new school year is a great time to contact your local catholic high schools and eighth graders and the religious education programs at your church. The Catholic Citizenship Essay Contest is open to boys and girls from grade 8 to 12. For additional information, please contact Brother Robert Griffin at essayposter@kofcnc.org.
Now would also be a great time to get your council’s disaster preparedness teams and programs in order. Please also include preparedness not only for natural disasters but also First Aid classes, CPR, AED, etc and also helping with safety/security teams at parishes. Please contact Disaster Relief chairman DD Michael Butler at disasterrelief@kofcnc.org for more information.
The Bright Futures program invites councils to support the students and schools in their communities. Too often, youth face significant barriers to their educational success. Councils can help by providing funding and resources. They can also contact schools, teachers, and parishioners with school-aged children to ask what they need.
Please contact Bright Futures chairman DD Joe Banks at dd2@kofcnc.org for more information.
Finally, this would be a great time to sit down with your parish priest to get on the same page with him as far as his plans for the parish and the Community programs you can run to support him.
Vivat Jesus!
