Program Purpose

To foster adoption as an option to abortion and to educate and influence others that children are a gift from God that come through families for guidance and support, regardless of whether the parents are biological or not.

 

Program Overview

Situation:  In the US, there are about 1 Million babies aborted each year; about 2 Million families waiting for infant adoption; and only about 20,000 infant adoptions each year.  There are about 120,000 non-infants in foster care awaiting adoption, with about 50,000 non-infant adoptions each year.  There is a significant unmet demand for infants to be adopted and a significant supply of non-infants awaiting adoption.

 

Initially:  For calendar years 2026 and 2027 (perhaps even 2028), the primary, if not sole, focus is on Moses’ Basket in both getting the proper bill approved through the NC Legislation and assisting the NC councils in working with their communities to place baby boxes.

 

*State Chairman Actions:

• Provide counsel and advice to Councils on how a council can promote adoption.
• Provide resources to councils regarding the blessing of children for families, regardless of biological or not.
• Provide a list of Adoption agencies and county adoption services with locations and contacts across the state.
• Provide educational materials on the issues and availability of children for adoption across the US, in NC, and in local communities.
• Support adoption legislation, particularly for streamlining the process and minimizing the expense for potential adoptive families.

 

Council Actions:  

• Work with local pregnancy centers to help to ensure that patients are informed early and often about the adoption option.
• Coordinate with local county and community foster care and adoption centers to assist with need awareness through the community.
• Pray for adoption, particularly the USCCB St. Joseph Novena for Adoption in March, culminating on March 19th, St. Joseph Feast Day for the Family.
• Support legislation on adoption by assisting the State Chairman with legislator contacts.
• Identify the council and parish adoptees and parents of adoptees to assist in supporting future adoption through their life experiences and commitment to adoption.
• Use the resources from the State Chairman to educate the council and the parish about adoption needs and value.
