This is a 501c3 non-profit organization and your contributions are tax deductible. 100% of the money is used to send them home. This program has been approved by Supreme Master Dennis Stoddard. The North Carolina Knights of Columbus, Fourth Degree, has been involved with Wounded Warrior Leave program since 2006. The program sends North Carolina based combat wounded men and women home for Christmas. The Military Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH) chapter based in Raleigh, North Carolina administers the program.
What is the Program?
The program, through donations of citizens and organizations, (K of C, parishes, business, etc), raises funds to send military men and women, who have lost limbs or suffered other major injuries while in harms way, home for Christmas leave. No overhead costs are assessed against these funds and all moneys donated are used to send combat wounded members home.
Who Administers the Program?
The North Carolina Chapter of the Military Order of the Purple Heart accepts donations throughout the year then coordinates approved leave status for each of the wounded, buys the necessary round-trip transportation tickets, and ensures these brave men and women get home to their families for Christmas.
What If More Funds Are Collected Than Necessary?
All funds donated have been used only for the intended purpose. If donations arrive after the cutoff date, they are deposited and used the following year. There are no administrative costs applied to these funds. Last year, the MOPH did use these funds to send 2 additional combat wounded veterans home on emergency leave due to family emergencies and the inability of the wounded service member to get home.
How Can I Help?
Donations made to this program are tax deductible since The Military Order of the Purple Heart is a 501 ( c ) 3 tax status organization. Checks should be made payable to “MOPH Wounded Warrior Leave”.
Where Do I Send My Money?
To facilitate coordination, checks from Knights of Columbus Councils and Assemblies are to be sent to the Vice Supreme Master, SK Robert J. Singer, 2506 Canal Drive, Wilson, NC 278961326. This allows recording of all KofC donations to the program as well as forwarding to the MOPH on a timely basis.
Last year, the Knights of Columbus in North Carolina (collectively) contributed over $57,000 (one third of all of last year’s donations).
Please help us assist these brave men and women who come from all walks of life and serve in the various branches, who have volunteered to protect our freedom and made tremendous sacrifices for our country.
