Program Purpose

To promote active prayer among Knights across the state to help build a culture of life.  Knights and their families will come together in both public and private acts of prayer to promote the protection of life.

Program Overview

The protection of life is a sustained prayer intention of the Church, and in particular of the Knights of Columbus. Knights remain firmly committed to defending the right to life of every human being – from the moment of conception to natural death. To commemorate and bolster this important cause, councils will promote a novena, nine days of sustained prayer, to build up a culture of life in our parishes, homes and wider community.

The NC State Council offers opportunities via resources through the USCCB to hold Novenas as a group or in private.  For the primary USCCB Novena for Life in January, the USCCB provides prayer cards, pamphlets, instruction sheets, and internet/text support leading up to and during the nine-day novena.  For other USCCB Novenas for Life, the State Life team offers a Novena to St. Joseph for Adoption around March 19th (Feast of St. Joseph) and a Novena for the Saints around November 1st (All Saints Day).   There are several opportunities to participate. The Novena for Life chair and program volunteers will be available to provide advance and event support by contacting Albert Hodges, Chairman, Movena for Life at oahodges@gmail.com

Program Requirements

This program requires a Council to advertise and promote one of the several USCCB Novenas for Life or to create and hold a Novena for Life through the Council.  It can be held solely for the Council, for the parish, or for a broader community and can be "in person" or on-line, as a group or individually prayed.  The primary USCCB Novena for Life held in January, 2024 is from January 16 - 24, 2024.  Information was sent to GK's in December, 2023, for participation.  The website is: https://www.usccb.org/resources/9-days-life-novena
