Program Purpose

Show public support for the right to life. Knights of Columbus councils are encouraged to participate in or sponsor local, state/provincial, regional or national Marches for Life. Councils that coordinate at least 25 participants or who organize a local March for Life will receive featured credit for this program.

Program Overview

To promote active participation in the national March for Life in January (Friday, January 19, 2024) as well as the various other Marches for Life in North Carolina, especially the Diocesan March in Charlotte and the State March in Raleigh. In addition, collaborate with local pregnancy centers to hold local Marches for Life throughout NC.  This offers a forum to collect ASAP donations for the sponsoring pregnancy center and register participants for the US election.

In addition to the national event to be held on Friday, January 19th, NC Right to Life and other pro life groups organize a state March in Raleigh which is planned for Saturday, May 18, 2024.  Since Roe v. Wade was overturned in June, 2022, there is less rationale to ensure our Marches for Life approximate the January timing.  Local Marches were held in the fall, 2023 in Forest City and Hickory.  Marches in Wilmington, Charlotte (Friday, January 12) and Jacksonville are being planned for 2024.  Other NC local Marches are being considered as well.  Contact our Chairman, Brother Tim Will for up-to-date information.  We have found that having a KofC Council or District team with a local pregnancy center or pro-life organization is the best way to establish a local March for Life.

Other options for a public display of support for Life are also recommended, such as praying the rosary in front of a Planned Parenthood or other abortion center, or conducting and participating in a Life Chain (first Sunday in October is Life Chain Sunday).

Program Requirements

Councils are required to organize a minimum of 25 marchers to participate in a national, state or local March for Life or councils must, themselves, organize a March for Life. Report activity using the online Program Report Form (#10784).
